Jaxson Rohman of Augustana University used a gator roll to score a third-period takedown to claim a 4-3 win over Cole Laya of West Liberty this morning in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids.
A Martin County West High School graduate, Rohman is a sophomore for the Vikings, was seeded fifth and will take an 18-5 record into tonight’s finals.
Laya, who is from Fairmont, W.V., was seeded first as the two-time defending national champion at that weight, is a five-time All-American and now has a 22-3 record this season.
Rohman, a former Martin County Red Bull, has a career record of 35-12.
He’ll face second-seeded Brendon Garcia of Adams State (22-3) in the championship match tonight. Garcia is a redshirt sophomore from Pueblo, Colo.
