Carson Macedo and Chris Ellingson were winners at the FENDT Showdown Wednesday at Jackson Motorplex.
Macedo took the lead on Lap 12 of the 30-lap feature as he earned his fifth career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series triumph at the track.
It’s the fourth straight year with a win in Jackson for Macedo, who found his way to Victory Lane in the last four World of Outlaws races at track.
He now has the most Outlaws wins in Jackson. Macedo had shared the top spot with Donny Schatz, Logan Schuchart and Brad Sweet.
“Jackson has been really good to us for many years so hopefully we keep racing here for many years to come,” Macedo said.
Kerry Madsen paced the field for the first 11 laps before Macedo pounced in traffic. As Madsen briefly slipped up the track in turn two, Macedo pulled even racing down the backstretch and he took the favored low lane entering turn three. That proved to be the race-winning move as Macedo efficiently picked through traffic during the remainder of the race, which was non-stop following the lone caution on Lap 3.
“Once you got to traffic you got so tight it was so easy to get rolled up,” he said. “Every time I’d get up off the bottom I’d spin in the marbles and crumbles. It didn’t take much to throw the wheel out of your hand. It seemed I could rotate these corners better than anyone and I think track position was huge, too.”
Following the pass for the lead, Madsen stayed within striking distance throughout the second half of the 30-lap race, pulling within several car lengths multiple times before setting for a runner-up result by 0.695 seconds.
“It was a great result overall for our race team,” he said. “For us to have a great run here, we’re just a fledgling team trying to build ourselves up.”
World of Outlaws points leader David Gravel rounded out the podium as he ran third in the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 the entire race.
“Definitely tiring,” Gravel said. “That was a very physical track. I felt we were just as good as those guys, just needed the track position. The guys gave me a good car. I felt pretty good. This isn’t our cup of tea, but I felt our car was just as good as anybody’s tonight.”
Michael ‘Buddy’ Kofoid was fourth and Chris Windom fifth.
Gravel set a track record during qualifying as he and Bill Balog were quickest in their groups during time trials. Heat races were won by Gravel, Windom, Balog and Macedo. Madsen was the dash winner with Tim Kaeding claiming the Last Chance Showdown.
Gravel leads the point standings by 190 points over Kofoid. Macedo is third in the point standings and Logan Schuchart fourth as they changed places. Sheldon Haudenschild is still fifth.
Kaleb Johnson and Skylar Prochaska both ran in the C Feature, placing fifth and eighth respectively.
Also of note, the 42 entries marked the most for a World of Outlaws race at Jackson Motorplex since June 2020.

Late Models
In the Sioux Marble Late Model Street Stocks feature, Ellingson took into the lead on Lap 13 and held Zach Olivier to win. It was the first appearance of the series at the track since 2019.
Cory Yeigh led the first 10 laps before he ran into the back of a dramatically slowing car on the frontstretch during the midpoint of the feature. That handed the lead to Aaron Foote, who paced the field for a pair of laps before Ellingson drove into the top spot.
A late-race caution set up a three-lap shootout, but Ellingson pulled away from Olivier, who rallied from 13th to second, to win by 2.127 seconds.
Dustin Gulbrandson placed third with Ryan DeBoer fourth and Ron Howe fifth.
The World of Outlaws series has three straight nights of racing scheduled in Wisconsin over the weekend for the Badger State Triple. They’ll be at Plymouth Dirt Track on Friday, Beaver Dam Raceway Saturday, and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie on Sunday.
Jackson Motorplex will again host the World of Outlaws on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Next in Jackson will be the Hefty Seed Merle Johnson Memorial Border Battle with Knoxville and Huset's MSTS 410 Sprint Cars along with the Heser Auto & Detailing Racesaver Sprint Cars.
