Logan Knutson outdueled Paxton Gravlin as ninth-seeded Heron Lake was a 2-1 winner over eighth-seeded Fox Lake in Game 1 of their Region 10C amateur baseball series Wednesday at Island Park in Windom.
Knutson went nine innings, allowing one run on seven hits, walked two and striking out 11. Gravlin went eight innings, giving up two runs on four hits, walking one and fanning 14.
Luke Kester had two hits and walked once for the Foxes. He scored Fox Lake’s lone run in the second inning on a Lucas Jagodzinske ground out.
Also recording hits for the Foxes were Zach Anderson, Dalen Keltgon, Braeden Shell, Jagodzinske and Carter Brudilie.
Jackson Joyce had two hits for the Lakers including a two-run single in the fifth inning.
This was Heron Lake’s lone game in the series. Fox Lake will be the home team for Game 2 and Game 3 is necessary.
Game 2 in the series is tentatively scheduled for Sunday at a site and time to be determined.
