Mavs’ Larson earns a 1st and 2nd at Sentinel Relays

Mylee Larson won one event and placed second in another Friday as the Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin track and field teams participated in the Class A portion of the Sentinel Relays in Fairmont on Friday.

Larson, a junior, won the shot put with an effort of 31 feet, 10.5 inches. Her teammate, sophomore Sophia Peterson placed sixth (27-1).

In the discus, Larson had a personal best throw of 101-1 as she placed second behind Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda’s Alabama Hoonhorst, who had a throw of 119-9. Hoonhorst placed second in discus at last year’s state Class A meet.

Peterson also scored in discus for MCWBO as she was fifth (88-5).

Hannah Cole also recorded a second-place finish for the Mavericks as she was the runner-up in the long jump (14-9.5).

The MCWBO girls also a pair of second-place relay teams, the 4x800 team of Sandy Tomas, Kate Swanson, Inga Olson and Evelynn Christenson (11:24.25) and the sprint medley (200-200-400-800) relay team of Paige Hartwig, Cole, Paris and Christenson (4:45.17).

The top place winner for the Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin boys was a second-place finish by Lixon Forsberg in the long jump with a PR of 18-9.

Kane Wohlhuter was fourth in the pole vault (9-0).

The Mavericks also had two fourth-place relay teams, the 4x200 squad of Pierce Rohman, Forsberg, Wohlhuter and Ron Demand (1:41.08) and the 4x400 unit of Cedric Johnson, Blakeley Scholl, Hayden O’Connor and Braxton Faber (4:14.81).

MCWBO’s next meet is Thursday in Lake Crystal.
