Throughout the postseason, pitching and defense were strong for the Jackson American Legion baseball team. Post 130 was just unable to put enough offense together.
Jackson's season ended with a 2-1 loss to Springfield at the Southwest Sub-State tournament at Wabasso.
"You can't ask for anything more from them," said Post 130 coach Blaise Jacobsen. "The people that pitched for us held some really good teams to minimal runs. It's a testament to our defense, too."
The bats just never got going for Jackson, which scored one run in four of its six tournament games.
"Gosh, our bats just started starving," Jacobsen said. "We were looking for anything, a little chip, a little snack, something. They were skin and bones by the end of the tournament. I wish we could have gotten those things going a little bit more. People go in slumps here and there but we just all did at the same time at the end. But, there was good pitching in the tournament, too. It's just the way the game goes. I'm real proud of them and had a lot of fun with them. We were close in every game. We competed and that's all you want."
There are always conflicts for players during the summer, but even with those, Jacobsen said his team always had a good number of players at games and they played well.
"You look at our dugout compared to a lot of the other teams dugouts and it was great," he said. "We still had a lot more in that dugout than other teams. We have some good athletes that are gone for wrestling and other things and I even went on vacation for a couple of games. We all have things in the summer, you just hope that they can all be around toward the end and we were and we had a good run at the end."
Jackson had an 11-3 overall record this summer.
