PORT ALBERNI, B.C. – Heron Lake native Hobie Hedquist has been named to the Coastal Conference roster for next month’s British Columbia Hockey League’s Top Prospects Game.
The game will be played Friday, Jan. 14 at South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, B.C.
Hedquist is a goalie with the BCHL’s Port Alberni Bulldogs.
Port Alberni, which is in second place in the nine-team Coastal Conference, will have five players participating in the game. That’s tied for the most with the host and Interior Conference-leading Penticton Vees.
The rosters consist of players already selected for the 60th Anniversary All-Star Weekend, NHL Central Scouting listed and watch-listed players and players selected by B.C.-based NHL scouts to fill the remaining spots.
Hedquist was the winning goalie and First Star of the Game Saturday night in Port Alberni’s 4-2 road win over the Chilliwack Chiefs, making 28 saves.
A University of North Dakota commit, Hedquist has a 12-3-3 record and ranks high in all goaltending statistical categories in the BCHL.
He’s tied for first in shutouts (3), third in minutes played (1,099), tied for fourth in wins (12), seventh in save percentage (.912) and also seventh in goals-against average (2.57).
The Bulldogs are idle until hosting the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Dec. 29.
