The Jackson Racing Hall of Fame has announced four inductees for its 2024 class.
The induction ceremony will be held during the Jackson Nationals at 1 p.m. Saturday Aug. 17 at the Hall of Fame display on the Jackson County Fairgrounds.
They are:
Merle Johnson, a loyal supporter of the racing in Jackson, helping with sponsorship at the track as well as racing teams.
Doug Johnson, a founding member of the Jackson Racing Hall of Fame, track photographer for many years and now the General Manager of Jackson Motorplex.
Larry Anderson, another founding member of the Jackson Racing Hall of Fame. He was the track announcer from the late 1980’s to around 2010.
Gregg Bakker, 360 sprint champion in 2004, 2015 and 2016. He won Jackson Nationals titles in 2006 and 2007 and was the Jackson Speedway Touring Series champion in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Bakker now oversees the facility’s track preparation.
Fair races
There will be two nights of sprint car racing at Jackson Motorplex next week with events scheduled for July 25 and 26.
On Thursday will be the Livewire Printing Company 360 Shootout presented by Tweeter Contracting. Competing will be the Gunderson Racing Inc. Midwest Sprint Touring Series 360 Sprint Cars and the Wyffels Hybrids RaceSaver Sprint Cars presented by Heser Auto & Detailing.
That event was postponed on May 24.
A lot of money is on the line for the 360 sprint cars on Friday as the Wieskus Memorial main event pays $3,000 to win. Also, there is a $250 Hard Charger Award courtesy of Quick Change Rebuilds as well as bonus money throughout the program in honor of the Wieskus Family.
GRP Motorsports is offering a $3,000 bonus if the driver who wins the 360 main event at Knoxville Raceway on July 20 can also win at Jackson Motorplex on July 25.
Also on the Friday program is the Merle Johnson Memorial 410 Border Battle presented by New Fashion Pork. The Midwest Sprint Touring Series 410 Sprint Cars will race for $7,000 to win and the Wyffels Hybrids RaceSaver Sprint Cars presented by Heser Auto & Detailing also competing.
Fairmont Raceway
The United State Modifieds Touring Series was at Fairmont Raceway Thursday with Rodney Sanders of Happy, Tex. winning the 25-lap A Feature that paid $3,000 to win.
Jim Chisholm (Osage) was second and Terry Phillips (Springfield, Mo.) third.
Tyler Davis (Haysville, Kan.) won the B Feature. Heat winners were Kyle Brown (Madrid, Iowa), Gary Christian (Broken Bow, Okla.) and Dan Ebert (Lake Shore).
The USRA Tuners were on hand with Brandon Hartmann ( Fairmont) claiming the eight-lap feture, followed by Slade Fitzgerald          (Dunnell) and Dale Gatton (Fairmont). Hartmann won the heat race.
Jeremy Crimmins (Fort Dodge) was the winner of the 12-lap Finke Excavating Hobby Stocks feature with Parker Anderson (Welcome) second and Parker Larson (Lewisville) third.
Anderson was the heat winner.
Ty Griffith (Webster City) claimed the top spot in the 15-lap Nutrien Ag Solutions B-Mods feature. Taylor Ausrud (Hayfield) was second and Jayden Oskerson (Fairmont) third.
Het winners were Tianna Mithun (New Richland) and Jaedon Erickson (Sherburn).
Luke Sathoff (Jackson) was first in the 15-lap State Bank of Fairmont Stock Cars feature, followed by Levi Vander Weide (Sioux Falls) and Jason Minnehan (Churdan, Iowa).
The next event at Fairmont Raceway is Back to School Night on Friday, Aug. 2.
Anderson third at Chateau
After running at Fairmont Thursday, Parker Anderson competed again on Friday at Chateau Speedway in Lansing.
He placed third in the USRA Hobby Stocks A Feature following a fourth-place finish in his heat race.
