After being on the verge of losing by the 10-run rule in the fifth inning, the Jackson County Central baseball team had the tying run on second base in the seventh inning of its Big South Conference game at St. James Area Friday.
The Huskies couldn’t come up with one more hit however, and the Saints held on for a 9-8 win over JCC at Veteran’s Field. St. James Area is 9-2 overall, 8-2 in conference play while Jackson County Central is 3-9 and 3-8.
It was the second one-run loss to the Saints in as many days for the Huskies. SJA had won 6-5 on Thursday at Wacker Field.
The Saints had a 9-0 lead after five in Friday’s game, scoring single runs in the first, third and fifth innings and had a six-run outburst in the fourth. After facing the big deficit, the Huskies scored five in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Gage Johnson had three hits including a double and two runs batted in, Ben Gallagher had two hits and three RBI and Carson Kolander also had two hits.
Talan Holm and Carson Doescher had one hit apiece.
