Carson Macedo put more distance between himself and the field for career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series wins at Jackson Motorplex as he led all 30 laps in capturing the top spot at the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars presented by FENDT.
Macedo won his sixth Outlaws feature in Jackson. Donny Schatz and Brad Sweet are next with four apiece.
It’s his second win at the track this season, having also won on the Outlaws’ first stop on June 4. He has won four of the last five events at Jackson Motorplex.
“Our race car is incredible here,” he said. “I feel we’re always exceptionally good here. It takes that team effort to make this happen.”
Macedo took the lead on the opening lap of the main event from his outside front row starting position.
The lone caution of the race occurred as he entered traffic on Lap 7. Macedo resumed his spot out front when the race restarted with a great launch. Logan Schuchart passed Michael “Buddy” Kofoid for third place and David Gravel moved into fifth place during the restart.
Bill Balog stayed close to Macedo, who re-entered traffic on Lap 14. Balog dove low and nearly pulled alongside Macedo on back-to-back laps just past the midpoint of the race. Schuchart capitalized on Balog’s lost momentum as he drove for the runner-up position on Lap 18.
Schuchart closed within a few tenths of a second of the leader, but Macedo was methodical as he worked through traffic without any hiccups en route to the victory by 1.006 seconds.
It marked his ninth World of Outlaws win of the season, which is the second most, trailing only David Gravel’s 11.
“I think track position is huge here at Jackson,” Macedo said. “I felt the bottom was going to give up fairly fast and the top was going to take over and that’s exactly what happened. I felt like my engine took off really good. Once you get to the lead you can make good pace.”
Schuchart’s second-place result marked his first podium during a World of Outlaws points race since May 24. Balog rounded out the podium for his sixth podium performance of the season with the Series.
Kofoid placed fourth and WoO points leader Gravel was fifth.
Donny Schatz, in his second race at the helm of the Big Game Motorsports No. 15, was 10th.
Schuchart set quick time during qualifying, with Gravel, Kofoid and Balog winnun heat races. Balog topped the dash, and Scott Broty captured the Last Chance Showdown.
The next World of Outlaws event is Tuesday at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis.
Next at Jackson Motorplex is the Bank Midwest Jackson Nationals presented by Wyffels Hybrids on Sept. 19-20.
That event now includes the Tweeter Memorial presented by Joel Pingeon Trucking that Friday.
Both nights will showcase the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series, Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association and the Cressman Sanitation Midwest Sprint Touring Series 410 Sprint Cars along with the Heser Auto & Detailing RaceSaver Sprint Cars.
