The spring sports season is heading into its home stretch, but any time of year is a good time to talk football around Jackson County Central.
Three JCC student-athletes made some news tonight (Monday) on Twitter (I know it’s X but I’m almost always going to call it Twitter) tonight (Monday).
Sophomore Roman Voss announced that he received a phone call from Minnesota’s P.J. Fleck and received his first Division I offer from the Gophers’ coach.
According to 247sports.com, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Voss is the second Minnesota player from the Class of 2026 to receive an offer from the ‘U’. The other is offensive tackle Andrew Trout (6-6 270) of Rocori.
Last month, Voss and his parents, Rod and Tricia, visited the Minnesota campus.
Roman also paid a visit to Wisconsin and Badgers’ coach Luke Fickell last month.
He’s had contact with two other Big 10 schools.
Michigan State Defensive Quality Control coach Chris Gordon made a camp invite and Northwestern sent Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks coach Zach Lujan and Defensive Assistant D.J. Vokolek to visit JCC.
Also stopping by recently have been two-time defending FCS national champion South Dakota State (where older brother Rudy played), North Dakota State and Northern Illinois.
In the fall of 2023, he made a gameday visit to Iowa State.
Voss is a three-year starter at quarterback for the Huskies and has also played receiver on offense for JCC. He is a safety on defense.
In the state rankings for the Class of 2026 by prepredzone.com, Voss is listed as an athlete and is the top-ranked player at that position. He’s sixth overall.
Also in that class, Weston Rowe is sixth among offensive lineman and 17th overall.
Two current JCC juniors got in on the recruiting news Monday as North Dakota Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks coach Isaac Fruechte visited to watch Ben Dahlin and Clay Malchow work out.
Fruechte is a Caledonia High School grad, played for the Gophers and spent two seasons in the NFL with the Vikings.
