Martin County had four finalists as the Red Bulls finished in third place of 12 teams at the Mankato East Cougar Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday.
Watertown Mayer/Mayer Lutheran was first with 192 points, followed by Waconia (163) and Martin County (137).
The Red Bulls had one champion and three second-place finishers.
Aden Welcome went 3-0 and picked up bonus points in each match as he won the 145-pound title. He won by fall in :21 over Isaac Andrzejek of Cretin-Derham Hall, won a 9-1 major decision over Steven Duske of Watertown Mayer-Mayer Lutheran and won by fall in 1:15 over Mankato West’s Shafer Ehmke.
Welcome has a 27-4 record on the season.
Maddex Faber placed second at 113. He won by fall in 3:33 over Preston Graf of Waconia in the quarterfinals and won an 8-0 major decision over Mankato West’s Robert Wicks in the semifinals to reach the title round.
Faber lost by fall in 1:38 in the championship match to Class 2A second-ranked Titan Friederichs of Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran. Faber is now 22-12.
There were three state-ranked wrestlers at 160 pounds and Carver Rohman, ranked fourth, would finish in second place.
Rohman pinned Benjamin Baumann of Watertown Mayer- Mayer Lutheran in 2:19 and Waconia’s Wil Goldschmidt in 1:58 before taking his first loss of the season in the finals, 5-3 to seventh-ranked Damian Riewe of Mankato West.
Sixth-ranked Tate Condezo of Marshall had lost to Riewe in the semifinals before coming back to win two matches and place third at 160. Rohman is now 34-1.
Max Olson split a pair of matches to place second at 220.
Ranked fourth in Class 2A, Olson received a bye in the quarterfinals before winning by fall in :33 over Marshall’s Gavin Schaefer. In the finals, Olson lost 16-10 to Class 3A top-ranked Alex Riley of Waconia.
Olson is now 28-4.
