Top-seeded Luverne scored three runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and put five more on the board in the 10th as the Redbirds defeated sixth-seeded Jackson 11-6 in Game 2 of the best-of-three Region 13C Championship Series tonight (Friday) at Wacker Field.
Both teams will play in the state Class C amateur baseball tournament that starts next weekend in Dassel, Delano and Litchfield. Parings will be announced on Sunday night.
Luverne will get a first-round bye and not play until the second weekend of the tournament. Jackson will play either Aug. 18, 19 or 20 at any of the three locations.
The Bulls scored four runs in the third for a 4-0 lead. The Redbirds scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth to close to within 4-3 before Jackson plated two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-3 lead.
There would be no more scoring until Luverne scored eight runs in its final two at bats.
The Region 13C third-place series resumes at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hadley with the Buttermakers hosting Fairmont. The Martins won Game 1 in that series Wednesday. If Game 3 is necessary, it would be played Sunday in Fairmont.
Look for more tomorrow!
