Redwood Valley went on a 15-0 run in the second half as the Cardinals erased a 10-point deficit on their way to a 67-63 win over Jackson County Central in the semifinals of the Section 3AA South Sub-Section boys basketball tournament.
Redwood held a 27-25 halftime lead but the Huskies went on a 9-0 run to lead 53-43. The Cardinals then went on their 15-0 run to grab a 58-53 lead.
JCC would rally, taking a 63-61 lead on an Erik Hesebeck three-pointer. Redwood Valley scored the final six points of the game.
Hesebeck led all players in the game with 23 points including four three-pointers.
Travis Rogotzke scored 14 points that included three treys as he went over the 1,000-point mark for his career. He finishes with 1,012.
Christian Benda also netted 14 points that included four threes and Weston Rowe scored 10. Aiven Farmer rounded out the scoring with two points.
Roman Voss had 11 assists and seven rebounds. Rowe also had five rebounds.
Rogotzke and Hesebeck each had three assists.
The Huskies finish their season with a 15-10 record.
Redwood will take a 14-14 record into Saturday’s 6 p.m. sub-section championship game at Southwest Minnesota State University. The fifth-seeded Cardinals will play sixth-seeded Montevideo after the Thunderhawks upended second-seeded Pipestone 57-55 in the other semifinal.
The North Sub-Section championship game is at 8 p.m. Saturday at SMSU with second-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins (22-6) playing fifth-seeded New London-Spicer (16-12).
