
Martin County West played Class 1A fourth-ranked New Ulm Cathedral on even terms for three innings before the Greyhounds took control and went on to beat the Mavericks 11-0 in the first Tomahawk Valley Conference softball championship game Thursday at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
After the teams were scoreless through three innings, Cathedral scored one run in the fourth inning, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and then put the game out of reach with a six-run seventh inning.
MCW had eight baserunners on seven hits and a walk vs. Cathedral’s Jayde Altermatt but couldn’t get on the scoreboard. The Greyhounds’ pitcher struck out 10.
Emily Anderson had two hits and walked once for Martin County West.
Hannah Rosenberg doubled. Also getting hits were Maddie Carlson, Bailey Larson and Lillie Schultz.
Carlson took the pitching loss, giving up 13 hits, walking one and striking out six.
New Ulm Cathedral finishes the regular season with an 18-2 record, while Martin County West is 17-3.
