Road opener
MCW softball slated to face ACGE

Two strong forces in the pitcher’s circle and plenty of other talented players figure to make this another exciting season for the Martin County West softball team.
The Mavericks are scheduled to get their season underway with a pair of road games, facing Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons in Alden on Thursday and visiting Windom on Friday.
Maddie Carlson and Sydney Clow, both juniors, give MCW a strong 1-2 combination in the circle.
And there’s plenty of other talent in the field and at the plate.
Courtney Anderson, Emily Schettler, Addy Wolhuter, Bailey Larson, Rowan Faber and Lillie Schultz all return from a team that was 22-5 last season.
Three of those losses came to eventual state Class A champion United South Central. The Mavericks were 1-2 vs. the Rebels in the Section 2A tournament, forcing the second championship game. USC had won the regular season meeting.
Thursday’s opener comes against a Knights team that has been able to play three games already, but has struggled, losing 11-0 at Southland, 18-0 at Cleveland and 12-3 in Glenville to Madelia.
Windom will be opening its season vs. Martin County West on Friday.
MCW has a pair of home games scheduled at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex in Welcome before a big road game to close out the week.
The Class A ninth-ranked Mavericks head to Wells on April 17 for a meeting with USC.
