ST. JAMES – Trace Michelson’s two-run single in the top of the seventh inning propelled Jackson County Central to a 6-4 win over St. James Area in Big South Conference Small School Division baseball Monday.
The Huskies had scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings for a 4-0 lead. The Saints scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game.
After neither team scored in the sixth, Bryson Powers led off the JCC seventh with a double, followed by a walk by Levi Lindley. Cameron Scholten sacrificed the runners to second and third before Michelson delivered his second hit of the game.
The Saints loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but the Huskies threw two runners out at the plate and got the final out of the game on a groundout.
Brett Rossow started and went 4.2 innings before giving way to Andrew Boyum, who went 1.1 innings and got the win. Payton Handevidt pitched the seventh inning to record a save.
Handevidt and Lindley joined Michelson with two hits for JCC. Lindley also walked twice.
Getting one hit apiece were Powers, Logan Butzon and Scholten.
Jackson County Central is 5-6 overall, 3-4 in conference play. St. James Area is 2-4 and 1-4.
The Huskies travel to Windom Tuesday.
