Jackson came back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 over Fairmont in a First Nite League amateur baseball game Wednesday at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont. The Bulls improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Martins scored both of their runs in the home half of the fifth inning.
Jackson cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth when Blake Evans walked to lead off the inning, stole second and scored on a base hit by Evan Olesen.
That’s where the score stayed until the top of the eighth.
Easton Bahr led off with a single, Evans moved him up with a sacrifice bunt and then Carter Snyder had an RBI double to tie the game.
Olesen reached on an error and stole second and then Chris Gumto reached on another error, with the Bulls scoring the go-ahead run.
Fairmont got a runner to second against Jackson starter Ryan Rasche in the eighth as Landen Meyerdrik, who a sophomore at Minnesota-Morris, singled with one out and stole second. Rasche would get out of the inning by striking out Eli Anderson, who played at Purdue of the Big 10 this spring; and getting Luke Becker, who played at the SEC’s Kentucky and in two different professional leagues, to pop up to shortstop.
With the Martins sending their number 3, 4 and 5 batters to the plate in the ninth inning, Will Larson came in to pitch in relief for Jackson and struck out all three batters he faced.
Bahr, Olesen and Gumto had two hits apiece for the Bulls.
Jackson’s scheduled game vs. Wells on Saturday has been canceled. The Bulls host the Milroy Irish at 5 p.m. Sunday at Wacker Field. That will be a seven-inning game as Milroy first has a 2 p.m. game at Lakefield.
