SIOUX FALLS – Derek Shoen set two University of Mary baseball records Tuesday, although the Marauders dropped both ends of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball doubleheader with Augustana University at Ronken Field.
In the second game of a doubleheader, the Truman native hit three home runs and had seven runs batted in for the Marauders. Both are NCAA era records for UMary.
He hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, another two-run shot in the fifth and a three-run home run in the seventh.
The host Vikings won that game 8-7 after taking the opener 4-2.
A first-team all-NSIC selection last year, Shoen is hitting .303 this season (23-76). He’s first on the team in homers with six and second in RBI with 28.
Shoen also has scored 19 runs, has six doubles, 13 walks and has been hit by a pitch nine times.
The Marauders are 9-13 overall, 1-6 in conference play.
UMary is scheduled to be at home for three games vs. Winona State this weekend, playing two Saturday and one Sunday.
