Season openers

First Nite, Gopher League teams start Sunday

Jackson’s Blaise Jacobsen, shown in a 2023 game vs. the Milroy Irish, is back for another season of amateur baseball. Blaise started his career with the Bulls before the turn of the century.

Amateur baseball teams in the First Nite and Gopher leagues will start their seasons today (Sunday).

Jackson and Lakefield will both be on the road to start the season.

The Bulls will be at Heron Lake for a 2 p.m. game. The Lakers are 0-1, dropping a nonleague game to Lamberton 8-6.

The Frogs travel to Hadley to face the Buttermakers at Laurie Mahon Field. That’s also a 2 p.m. game.

Jackson and Lakefield are then off until next Sunday when the Bulls go to Hadley and the Frogs open their home schedule at Stan King Field vs. Worthington.

• Lakefield at Hadley, 2 p.m.

• Windom at Milroy Irish, 2 p.m.

• Fox Lake at Worthington, 2 p.m.

• Pipestone at Luverne, 2 p.m.

Wednesday, May 14

• Windom at Worthington, 7:30 p.m.

Friday, May 16

• Milroy Yankees at Worthington, 8 p.m. (nonleague)
