Carsen Musser was the first pick of the second round by the Madison Capitols in the Phase II portion of United States Hockey League Draft. He was the 17th overall pick.
The USHL is a junior league sanctioned by USA Hockey. Its players are between the ages of 16 and 21.
The USHL is strictly amateur, allowing former players to compete in NCAA college hockey.
Drafted players will compete for a chance to make the 30-man roster in June at the team's main camp. A Sherburn native, Musser has signed to play at Colorado College.
Musser played with the Under-18 U.S. National Team Development Program this past season.
The team is based in Plymouth, Mich. They play a schedule of USHL and NCAA Division I and III teams.
Musser played in 28 games this season and compiled a record of 14-6-1. His goals against average was 3.07 and he had a save percentage of .890.
In April he was on the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Men’s World Championships in Basel, Switzerland.
He was the winning goalie in a 12-1 U.S. win over Norway, making 14 saves. Musser also played the third period in a 10-0 win over Switzerland, recording four saves.
