Brandon Williamson will make his second rehab start today (Sunday) as he returns to a Louisville Bats uniform to take the mound in an International League game in Columbus, Ohio vs. the Clippers.
The parent club Cincinnati Reds sent Williamson to the High-A Dayton Dragons for his first rehab appearance on Tuesday. His rehab assignment has been transferred to the Bats.
He’s been with the Louisville club since making pitching in Dayton. The Martin County West graduate is scheduled to go four innings or approximately 60 pitches.
In his outing on Tuesday he allowed one hit, did not walk a batter, and struck out four. The left-hander was on a 50-pitch limit and threw 38 pitches, 28 for strikes.
Williamson had been shut down by the Reds in spring training with a shoulder strain.
The left-hander finished the 2022 season with Louisville after starting with AA Chattanooga. He then started 2023 with the Bats before being called up to the majors in mid-May. Williamson was 5-5 with the Reds with a 4.46 ERA in 2023.
After the start vs. Columbus, the Cleveland Guardians’ affiliate, Williamson is also expected to start for Louisville this week in Louisville vs. the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers).
Pitchers can utilize up to 30 days on a rehab assignment before a decision must be made by a club.
