
Martin County West will be looking to earn a spot in the championship game of the Section 2A softball tournament when the Mavericks play an elimination game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
The Mavericks, 20-4, will play either New Ulm Cathedral (21-3) or Sleepy Eye (17-6). The Greyhounds and Indians will meet at 5 p.m., with the winner to face MCW.
Martin County West split a pair of games on Saturday, shutting out New Ulm Cathedral 3-0 and losing 2-1 to United South Central.
MCW is 1-1 vs. Cathedral this season as the Greyhounds won 11-0 in the Tomahawk Valley Conference championship game on May 15 and the Mavericks claiming the Saturday win.
Martin County West was an 8-1 winner over Sleepy Eye on May 15.
United South Central (22-0) is the final undefeated team in the tournament and is waiting to take on whoever comes out of Tuesday’s plays in the championship round on Thursday at Caswell.
