Athletes from the Jackson County Central at Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin track and field field teams will be competing in the Section 2A meet Saturday at Todnem Field at Mankato West High School. Competition starts at 9:30 a.m.
The Huskies advanced 37 entries from last week’s South Sub-Section meet in Wells to the section meet, 19 for the girls and 18 for the boys. The Mavericks advanced nine entries, six boys and three girls.
The top two place winners in each event is an automatic qualifier for the state meet. Entries can also advance by meeting a qualifying standard in each event that is based on recent performances at the state meet.
JCC had three athletes who met the qualifying standard in their event at last week’s sub-section meet, but only performances at the section meet move on. The Class 1A state meet is Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11 at St. Miachel-Albertville High School.
Rylie Cother is seeded second in two girls events, the 100-meter hurdles and high jump. She went 5-3 in the high jump at the section meet, surpassing the qualifying standard of 5-0. Cother also has the No. 3 seed performance in the long jump.
Three JCC girls entries are seeded fourth, Romi Rosenbrook in the pole vault and Tianna Uilk in the shot put, as well as the 4x200-meter relay team which was comprised of Natalia Botello-Ramos, Zoey Hall, Stevie Untiedt and Allison Luebben at the sub-section meet.
Clay Malchow has the only number one seed for the Jackson County Central boys as had the best sub-section time in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles last week in Wells.
The JCC boys have three No. 2 seeds.
Ben Dahlin met the state standard last week and is the number two seed in the 200 meters; and Quinn Landherr hit the pole vault standard and set a school record in Wells will be the No. 2 seed on Saturday.
JCC also has two relay teams that are seeded second, the 4x100 team of Gage Johnson, Aiven Farmer, Isaac Hesebeck and Dahlin, as well as the 4x200 unit of Malchow, Hesebeck, Landherr and Dahlin.
