Third-seeded Martin County West is scheduled to host 14th-seeded Minnesota Valley Lutheran in the single elimination first round of the Section 2A softball tournament at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex in Welcome.
The Mavericks have a 17-3 record, while the Chargers are 3-17. The teams met on April 12 in New Ulm, with MCW winning 3-0.
Maddie Carlson threw a no-hitter for the Mavericks that day, walking two and striking out five.
Martin County West lost its most recent game, falling 11-0 to New Ulm Cathedral in the Tomahawk Valley Conference championship game. That ended an 11-game winning streak for MCW.
MVL has lost 11 in a row. The most recent games for the Chargers were last Thursday, when they were swept by Le Sueur-Henderson 15-0 and 13-1.
Tuesday’s winner advances to the double-elimination portion of the tournament that begins Thursday, again at the site of higher-seeded team.
If MCW wins over MVL, the Mavericks would be at home on Thursday, hosting the winner of the game between sixth-seeded Nicollet and 11th-seeded Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
The remainder of the tournament will then be played at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
United South Central is seeded first in the tournament and New Ulm Cathedral is second.
