MANKATO – Athletes from Jackson County Central and Martin County West will compete at the Section 2A track and field meet Saturday at Todnem Field at Mankato West High School.
The top two finishers in all events advance to the state meet and there is also a qualifying standard to advance to state in each event. The state meet is June 9-10 at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
JCC
Jackson County Central’s girls have four entries that have the best qualifying performance from last week’s two sub-section meets and the boys have three.
Peyton Hanson has the best qualifying performance in two events.
She is one of two pole vaulters to clear 9-6 last week and also has the fastest time in the 300 hurdles (48.48). Erica Hanson will join Peyton Hanson in the pole vault for the Huskies. Peyton Hanson was a state qualifier in pole vault last year.
Elsa Landherr had the sub-section performance in the triple jump (32-6 ½) and was on the 4x200-meter relay team that had the best time (1:50.15). Other members of that relay team are Daysia Tomlin, Kendra Haar and Hannah Carson.
Landherr also had the second-best seed time in the 200 meters (27.6) and second-best 400 time (1:01.89).
Rylie Cother had the best sub-section performance in the high jump (5-2), with teammate Payten Benda one of two girls to go 5-0, which was second-best. Benda had the third-best seed time in the 100 hurdles (17.32), with Peyton Hanson sixth (17.57).
For the JCC boys, Andrew Boyum was seeded first in two events and Evan Paplow is seeded high in those same events.
In the 3200 meters, Boyum was first (10:06.9) and Paplow second (10:13.17). In the 1600 meters, Boyum is first (4:35.7) and Paplow third (4:37.56). Kie Anderson will also compete in the 1600 meters.
Caleb Vancura had the best qualifying performance in the shot put (48-3) and is second in the discus (148-5).
Gabe Wolff had the third-best qualifying time in the 200 meters (23.37) and fourth best in the 100 meters (11.34). Alex Koster will also compete for Jackson County Central in the 200.
Ridge VanWesten qualified for the state meet in the 300 hurdles last year. He had the fifth best qualifying time.
MCW
Katie Hartke qualified for the state meet in the 3200 meters last year and enters the section meet with the third best seed time (11:59.82).
The Mavericks boys 4x800 team had the fourth best qualifying time (9:00.76). Members of that team are Riley Cole, Jamesson Forsberg, Joseph Forsberg and Grant Kohnen.
