Two teams coming in with an 11-day break match up in the quarterfinals of the Section 3AA South Sub-Section volleyball tournament Friday when top-seeded Jackson County Central hosts eighth-seeded St. James Area. Match time is 7 p.m.
The last match for each team was a win on Monday, Oct. 18 the Huskies beating Fairmont 3-0 and the Saints winning 3-1 over Waseca.
That win over the Cardinals was the fifth time and eighth match JCC had played in an eight-day stretch.
Jackson County Central has a match record of 23-6 and set record of 61-21. St. James Area is 6-15 and 21-45.
It will be the third meeting of the season between the teams.
The Huskies defeated the Saints twice during the regular season, Aug. 28 at St. James and at home on Oct. 4, each by a 3-0 margin.
The winner advances to play either fourth-seeded Windom (16-11) or fifth-seeded Redwood Valley (7-15) in the sub-section semifinals on Monday at the site of the higher seeded team.
On the other side of the bracket, seventh-seeded Fairmont (9-14) is at second-seeded Luverne (17-6) and sixth-seeded Montevideo (10-14) goes to third-seeded Pipestone (16-11).
The sub-section championship match is Thursday, Nov. 4 at a site to be determined, with the Section 3AA championship in Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 6.
Paynesville (20-3) is the number one seed in the North Sub-Section.
