MARSHALL – Jackson County Central will take part in the Section 3A gymnastics meet Saturday at Marshall High School. March in and introductions are scheduled for 11:45 a.m. with competition to start at noon.
Worthington was third in the final Class A ratings by the Minnesota Gymnastics Coaches Association with a 144.525 average and is regarded as the favorite to advance as a team to the state meet for the eighth straight year. The Trojans placed sixth in the state meet last year.
JCC was the only other section team in the ratings. The Huskies were 16th with an average of 134.717.
Filling out the seven-team field are Luverne, host Marshall, Pipestone, Redwood Valley and Windom/Mountain Lake.
The state team competition is Friday, Feb. 18 at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul.
There will also be spots available for the individual portion of the state meet on Saturday, Feb. 19, also in St. Paul.
The top three finishers in the all-around advance to the state meet along with the next three gymnasts who did not earn an all-around spot.
JCC has two gymnasts with state meet experience.
Junior Payten Benda has competed on beam in the state meet each of the last two years.
Senior Carson Schneekloth competed at state on beam as a freshman in 2019 but injuries prevented her from competing the last two seasons. She has been out most of this season as well, competing only in the Huskies’ final regular-season meet.
