Jackson County Central’s girls win their second straight Section 2A true team track and field title Tuesday in Wells and the JCC boys were second in the team standings.
The girls will compete in the state Class A true team meet in Stillwater on Saturday, May 20 and they could be joined by the boys team.
The JCC boys results will be compared with the results of second- through fifth-place teams in the other seven sections for four wildcard berths in the state meet. Those teams are scheduled to be announced on Saturday.
JCC’s girls had a total of 836 points to take the top spot, with Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton second with 813. Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet was third with 747 points.
The Huskies had three first-place finishes, including a school record from Rylie Cother in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.6 seconds.
Elsa Landherr won the triple jump (33-0) and was led off the winning 4x800-meter relay team that had a time of 10:38.14. Elese Paplow, Cora Pauling and Isabella Moonen ran the other legs.
Peyton Hanson finished second in the pole vault (9-6) and ran on the second-place 4x200 team with Natalia Botello-Ramos, Zoey Hall and Daysia Tomlin (1:54.59).
In the boys meet, Maple River won the team title with 894 points, with Jackson County Central second with 736 points. LCWM/N was third (731.5).
Caleb Vancura had two firsts for the Huskies, winning the shot put (49-8 3/4) and discus (155-2).
Quinn Landherr won the pole vault (12-6) and also had a second-place finish in the 400 meters (52.63).
JCC will compete in the Big South Conference Small School Division meet Saturday in Blue Earth. The Large School Division meet is Tuesday, May 23 at Southwest Minnesota State.
MCW results
Martin County West’s boys were 12th in the team standings and the girls were 14th.
The Maverick boys had two second-place relay teams, the 4x400 (3:38.4) and the 4x800 (8:49.06). Ryan Pierson was third in the 3200 meters (10:02.95).
The top finish for the MCW girls was a third place from Katie Hartke in the 3200 meters (12:54.19).
Martin County West will compete in the Valley Conference meet next Tuesday in Lake Crystal.
