Jackson’s Region 13C amateur baseball playoff series with Windom has started out as a throwback to a 2018 series between the teams and manager Scott Bahr would like to see that script play out to its conclusion this (Saturday) afternoon.
The Bulls were 7-1 winners over the Pirates in Game One Wednesday at Wacker Field in Jackson. Game Two is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lincoln Field at the Windom Recreation Area.
In a season in which the Bulls had a little lighter schedule than most seasons they moved several home games out of town due to flooding in Jackson. That included playing a “home” game vs. Windom in Windom.
As much as the Bulls enjoy playing at home, it wouldn’t bother them much if they were done playing there for the season.
“The worst thing that happens is we get to play at home again one more time and that’s a pretty good thing,” said Jackson manager Scott Bahr. “This is similar to 2018. We won Game One at home and they were playing at the Rec Field. Ty and Vereen helped them fund it when they built it and they named it after Lincoln Wacker.
“We went up there and won on Saturday afternoon. Let’s hope we can get that same kind of result but if not, we’ll back to Wacker Field and give it all we got on Sunday.”
Jackson will stay with the script it has used in the region playoffs and start Hadley draftee Tucker Sorenson on the mound Saturday.
Bahr is not certain who the Pirates will send to the bump, but he knows it will be another tough test no matter who it is.
“They’re probably going to throw either (Ross) Ackerman or (Luke) Gilbertson,” Bahr commented. “They’re both really good and we have a lot of respect for both of them. When it was time to draft, and we didn’t know who was going to win the series between Windom and Milroy both of those guys were very high on our list of guys we have respect for. We expect them to come out flying.”
If the Pirates send the series to Game Three, it would be played at 1 p.m. Sunday in Jackson.
The Region 13C championship series will have a Game Three on Sunday after Fairmont was a 9-5 winner over Luverne Friday night. The Redbirds will host the deciding game Sunday.
