BLUE EARTH – Martin County had seven champions in winning the team title at the Maher Invitational Saturday. The Red Bulls were first with 201.5 points, with Lake Mills second with 140.5.
Two Martin County wrestlers earned an individual award.
Kain Sanders, who is rated seventh at 145 pounds in Class 2A, was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. He won all three of his matches by falls, pinning Mateaus Sanchez (Blue Earth Area) in 2:19, Elliott Betz (Mankato East) in 3:09 and Alex Beaty (Lake Mills) in 1:28.
Max Olson received the Dick Boran Award, presented to the tournament’s top underclassman. After a first-round bye, Olson pinned Elijah Sanchez (Blue Earth Area) in :26 and won by technical fall 16-0 in 4:27 over Kale Frank (Blue Earth Area).
The Red Bulls will compete in the Maple River/United South Central Quad in Mapleton Tuesday. Blue Earth Area and Lake Mills will be the other teams involved.
