After tourney title, MCW to face USC
Martin County West and United South Central will both bring lengthy winning streaks into their game Monday when the Mavericks and Rebels meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Thompson Park in Wells. The game was originally scheduled for April 17 but was postponed due to cold, wet weather that day.
MCW has won nine straight games since its lone loss of the season to Cleveland and is 17-1. USC has won seven in a row since a 5-1 loss to Randolph and has a 14-1 mark.
In the 2025 season. 15 percent of the Mavericks’ games were against the Rebels as they played four times, including three in the Section 2A tournament. They played three times in 2024 including twice in the section tourney.
USC leads the series 5-2, going 3-1 in 2025 after winning the 2024 series 2-1.

Martin County West’s last three wins came Saturday at a tournament in Walnut Grove.
The Mavericks opened with a four-inning 19-0 win over MACCRAY behind a perfect game by Sydney Clow, who struck out six.
Courtney Anderson was 4-for-4 with a double, home run and seven runs batted in. Rowan Faber and Emily Schettler had two hits apiece.
Next was a 9-2 win over Lakeview with Maddie Carlson going the distance in the pitcher’s circle as she gave up two runs on six hits and fanned 12. Carlson and Anderon each hit a home run.
Ida Rohman had three hits and Bailey Larson had two including a double.
In the championship game Carlson pitched five innings, striking out eight and Clow picked up one strikeout in her one inning.
Schettler hit a pair of doubles and Larson also had two hits. Posting one hit each were Lillie Schultz, Ida Rohman and Stella Rohman.
