Alex Bretzman pitched a complete game, five-hit shutout as Jackson was a 2-0 winner over Lakefield in First Nite League amateur baseball Sunday at Wacker Field. Bretzman walked four and struck out seven as the Bulls improve to 6-4 overall, 6-3 in league play.
Brett Rossow took the loss for the Frogs as he went eight innings, allowed two runs on 12 hits, walked two and struck out four.
Rossow and Lakefield got out of some tough spots during the game as Jackson left 10 runners on base, leaving the bases loaded in the first inning and two on in the second, fifth and sixth innings. The Bulls also made two outs on the bases.
Jackson’s first run came in the first inning as Andy Wolf led off the game by drawing a walk, Easton Bahr reached on an error and Seth Busch singled to score Wolf.
The only other run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth when Bahr led off an inning by walking, Busch followed with a single and Carter Snyder later singled with one out to bring in Bahr.
The Bulls stopped a run at the plate in the sixth inning. Gabe Wolff doubled to lead off the inning for Lakefield and Taylor Christopher followed with a single to center field, but Busch’s throw to catcher Carter Snyder was in time to get Wolff.
Christopher advanced to second on the throw to the plate but he was left there as Bretzman and the Bulls retired the next two hitters.
The Frogs got their first two batters aboard in the seventh inning and their leadoff batter on in the eighth, but Jackson stopped both of those rallies. Bretzman retired the side in order in the ninth, posting one strikeout.
Busch had three hits for the Bulls, while Wolf had two and also walked once.
Snyder and Ben Gallagher had two hits apiece. Bahr had a hit and walked, Chris Gumto doubled, and Blake Evans had a hit.
Justin Holinka had two hits for Lakefield, now 2-5 both overall and in league play. Wolff, Taylor Christopher and Bryce Christopher each had one.
Jackson’s next game is at home at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday vs. Hadley. The Bulls are on the road twice next weekend, playing a nonleague game at St. James at 6 p.m. Saturday and a league game at Windom at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Lakefield will host Fox Lake at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
