Lange places 2nd at U23 Pan Am Championships

Katie Lange won two matches and lost one to earn a silver medal in the 62 kg weight class at the Women's Freestyle U23 Pan American Championships in Querétaro, Mexico.

Here are results in the tournament for the Martin County West graduate:

• Qualifier: Bye

• Quarterfinals: Defeated Leiddy Dayanna Acuna (Ecuador) 8-3

• Semifinals: Defeated Carina Giangeruso (Puerto Rico) 11-0 5:52

• Finals: Lost to Astrid Montero Chirinos (Venezuela) 7-5

According to USA Wrestling, a desperation headlock nearly converted for a Lange pin late in the finals, but she wound up dropping the decision.

Elleni Johnson, a Grand Valley State teammate of Lange’s from Murray, Utah, also went 2-1 and earned a silver medal in the 72 kg weight class.

The U.S. women had a combined record of 22-6 with eight victories by pin and 10 by technical fall.

Team USA was first in the team standings with 192 points, Canada was second (161) and Mexico third (137).
