Jackson County Central had six athletes earn all-conference honors including one champion at the Big South Conference individual wrestling tournament at the Jackson County Central High School gym.
The tournament had been scheduled for last month in Marshall but was postponed due to the weather and the site changed to Jackson due to scheduling conflicts.
JCC’s Nolan Ambrose was the 139-pound champion as he earned all-conference honors for the fourth time. Rated first at 145 pounds in Class 1A, Ambrose had a bye and then won three matches by fall, including a win in :47 over Class 1A 139-pound No. 6 Hudson Burnett.
Kyler Thier (26-6) was the other wrestler to make the finals for the Huskies. He lost a 3-1 decision to Marshall’s Lincoln Christensen at 107. It’s his first time earning all-conference honors.
Four JCC wrestlers placed third, Kayden Eller (34-7) at 114, Isaac Rodriguez (29-7) at 121, Seth Stai (26-15) at 160 and Ryan Haley (27-11) at 189.
Eller is all-BSC for the second time, with the others earning the honor for the first time.
Also for Jackson County Central, Michael Hansen (9-20) placed fourth at 285, Braydan Winter (17-15) was fifth at 215 and Carson Kolander (8-10) did not place at 172. The Huskies were open at four weight classes.
Marshall was first in the team standings with 236.5 points, followed by New Ulm (158), St. Peter (154) and JCC (153).
Most falls
There were six wrestlers in the tournament who earned three falls, with four in that group being from Jackson County Central.
Ambrose had the fastest three falls, coming in 2:11.
Haley had three falls in 2:28, Stai in 3:35 and Rodriguez in 6:38.
JCC had the most team falls with 19, with St. Peter next with 12.
Most team points
Ambrose collected the most team points with 28.
New Ulm’s Winsten Nienhaus (145) and Pipestone’s Jackson Melcher (189) each had 27.5 points.
Dual championship
Jackson County Central will wrestle at New Ulm for the Big South Conference dual championship at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The Huskies lead the BSC West Division with a 5-0 record with a home match vs. Windom/Mountain Lake on Thursday. Marshall completed its conference with a 5-1 mark, but JCC holds the tiebreaker by beating Marshall 37-31 on Dec. 19.
New Ulm won the East Division with a 6-0 record.
The Huskies defeated the Eagles 38-27 in New Ulm on Jan. 23.
Jackson County Central has won the dual meet title in each of the past two years.

The Huskies will wrestle in tournaments on back-to-back days as they’ll be at Mapleton on Saturday.
In addition to the Huskies and host Maple River/United South Central, teams scheduled to compete are Grand Meadow/LeRoy-Ostrander/Southland, Le Sueur-Henderson, Mankato West, Class 3A No. 6 New Prague, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, Class 3A RV Owatonna, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Redwood Valley, Sibley East, Tri-City United and Watertown-Mayer/Mayer Lutheran.
