Jackson and Sibley East have never met heading into their first-round game in the state Division II American Legion baseball tournament, but they do have something in common.
Both earned their way to the state tournament by beating a team on its home field.
Jackson Post 130 will play Sibley East (Gaylord Post 433) will play in the second game of the day, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Friday at Redbird Field in Luverne.
The Tarantulas won the Southwest Sub-State tournament Saturday in St. James with a 5-3 win over the host team in the second championship game. St. James had forced the extra game by winning 9-3 earlier in the day.
On Monday morning, Sibley East defeated Norwood 3-2 to win the weather-delayed East Central Sub-State tourney in Norwood.
Jackson will be the visiting team as determined by coin flip.
The other game in the top half of the bracket Friday has Morris playing Chatfield at 10 a.m.
In the lower bracket, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton plays Tri-Town (Atwater) at 4 p.m. and Wadena taking on host Luverne at 7:30 p.m. In between the lower-bracket games, the opening ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The tournament continues through Sunday.
The champion advances to the Division II Central Plains Regional at a site to be determined.
Play in the state Division I tournament will be held Thursday-Sunday at Burnsville, Prior Lake and Shakopee.
