Young America ended Fairmont’s run at the state Class C amateur baseball tournament Sunday at the Mini Met in Jordan as the Cardinals edged the Martins 1-0.
Plato draftee Reece Schwirtz went the distance for Young America, allowing seven hits, not walking a batter and striking out 12. Collin Lovell, a draftee from Windom, pitched well for Fairmont as he went eight innings allowing one run on seven hits, walking two and fanning five.
The only run came in the fourth inning when Isaac Hormann led off with a single and after a sacrifice bunt and a groundout, Matt Mann doubled to center field to plate Hormann.
Young America would fall 6-0 to host Jordan in the semifinals later in the day.
The Brewers will try to complete their run to state title on their home field at 1 p.m. Monday vs. Waconia. The Lakers also won twice on Sunday, beating Bird Island 4-3 and Buffalo 6-3.
Fairmont was making its 24th appearance in the state tournament. The Martins won Class A championships in 1930 and 1959 and won the Class C title in 2020.
Miesville won its eighth state Class B title Sunday at Tiger Park in Belle Plaine as the Mudhens edged Champlin Park 4-3 in the semifinals and then beat 2023 champ Air Freight Unlimited 12-1 in seven innings in the championship game.
Previous state titles for Miesville came in 1978, 1989, 1992, 1995, 2007, 2016 and 2017.
