Martin County West’s Hunter Schmidt is three strokes off the lead and Mitchell Weber is eight shots off the pace after Tuesday’s first round of the state Class A boys golf tournament.’
Schmidt, a sophomore, carded a 76 at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, while Weber, a junior, came in with an 81.
There’s a tie for the lead at 73 between Cole Witherow (New Life Academy) and Noah Scullard-Bender (Duluth Marshall). Gannon Walsh (Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa) and Rylin Petry (Fertile-Beltrami) are tied for third at 75.
Weber starts his second round at 7:57 a.m. Wednesday in a foursome with Valley Conference rival Logan Thell (Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton), Dominic Fairbanks (Cass Lake-Bena) and Trevor Swonger (Underwood).
Schmidt tees off at 8:06 a.m. in a group with Carson Erickson (Sleepy Eye United), Evan Villagomez (Heritage Christian Academy) and Tony Carlin (Fosston).
Fertile-Beltrami is the team leader with 323, with Duluth Marshall second at 333.
