BECKER – Martin County West’s two golfers at the state Class A boys golf tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club each improved their scores from the opening round by three strokes Wednesday.
Schmidt, a sophomore, finished alone in fourth place and junior Mitchell Weber tied for 14th.
Schmidt carded a one-over par 73 Wednesday after a first-round 76 for a 36-hole total of 149. He was 35th in the state tournament last year.
Weber, a junior, shot 78 Wednesday after his opening day 81 to finish at 159.
Schmidt finished three shots out of first place.
Medalist was Cole Witherow of New Life Academy (73-73 – 146).
Finishing second was Rylin Petry of Fertile-Beltrami (75-72 – 147) and third was Noah Scullard-Bender of Duluth Marshall (73-75 – 148).
Fertile-Beltrami was the team champion (323-309 – 632), with Duluth Marshall second (333-329 – 662).
