Martin County West’s Knox Larson is in a tie for 39th place in a field of 88 golfers after the first round of the state Class 1A tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
Larson shot an 84 on Day One and is tied with four others, Michael Dascalos of team leader Walker-Hackensack-Akeley, Tanner McNamee of second-place Legacy Christian Academy, Brandon Brown of Cass Lake-Bena and Gavin Rieck of Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton.
Larson’s round included eight pars and a Birdie 4 on the 425-yard sixth hole.
The Martin County West freshman will start his second round at 12:16 p.m. Wednesday, playing in a threesome with two of the golfers he’s tied with, Brown and Rieck.
Ashby-Brandon-Evansville sophomore Traeton Nelson carded an even-par 72 for a one-shot lead over Heritage Christian Academy junior Alex Rhode and Lakeview senior Carson Boe.
Walker-Hackensack-Akeley shot a team total of 315 for a one-shot lead over Legacy Christian. Section 3A champion Lakeview is sixth (339) and Section 2A champ Sleepy Eye United eighth (344).
For the girls, Section 3A winner Dawson- Boyd has the team lead with a 338, which is 10 shots better than Park Christian. Sleepy Eye United is sixth (390).
The individual leader is Dawson-Boyd senior Lindsey Lund, who carded a 78. Mountain Lake Area freshman Nevaeh Ott is tied for ninth in an original field of 86 golfers with an 86.
Detroit Lakes leads the Class 2A boys standings at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan with a 288, one shot ahead of Southwest Christian and Blake. Brock Burhans of Detroit Lakes shot a three-under 69 for the individual lead.
Detroit Lakes also leads the Class 2A girls field with 320, eight shots ahead of Minnewaska Area’s 328. Genevieve Birkeland of Pequot Lakes is the individual leader with a 73.
In Class 3A at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, Cretin-Derham Hall is the boys leader (291) and Minnetonka leads the girls standings (305).
