Martin County West will have two participants in the state Class A boys golf tournament that starts Tuesday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker. The scheduled 36-hole event concludes on Wednesday.
The pair of Mavericks will play in consecutive foursomes.
Mitchell Weber, a junior, has a scheduled 8:51 a.m. tee time on No. 1.
He’ll be in a group with Evan Villagomez (Heritage Christian Academy), Keegan Bronson (Hayfield) and Tony Carlin (Fosston).
Sophomore Hunter Schmidt is in the next group, slated to start at 9 a.m.
Other members of his group are Carson Besonen (Lac qui Parle Valley), Jake Fishbauger (Fillmore Central) and Parker Brock (Walker-Hackensack-Akeley).
Schmidt played in last year’s state tournament, tying for 35th in a field of 88 golfers with a 36-hole total of 169 on rounds of 84 and 85.
As far as the team completion for the boys, Fertile-Beltrami returns to defend its team title and is the lone team returning from last year’s qualifying field. Rylin Petry, now a senior for the Falcons, was last year’s individual medalist (70-76-146).
Lac qui Parle Valley is the defending girls team champion, with Eagles senior Sarah Halvorson a co-medalist last year (81-85-166).
Fairmont will have two golfers playing in consecutive groups in the Class AA girls field at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.
Sophomore Brynn Gustafson has a 1:21 p.m. tee time on No. 10. She’s in a group with Avary Reichel (Holy Angels), Kaity Kusler (Litchfield) and Maya Merchant (Mounds Park Academy).
Junior Solveig Senf starts at 1:30 p.m. in a foursome with Caylin Cantwell (Totino-Grace), Paige Johnson (Zimmerman) and Sophie Cook (Hawley).
Lake City is the defending girls team champion and Cloquet the defending boys titlist. Both are back to defend their crowns.
Class AAA will be played at Bunker Hills in Columbia Heights.
Defending champion Alexandria is one of six girls teams returning. Edina was the big-school runner-up last year and it returns to lead the field.
