Martin County West junior Hunter Schmidt is in a three-way for second place after the first round of the state Class A boys golf tournament at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
Schmidt, who placed fourth a year ago, carded a 72 today (Tuesday). Defending champion Cole Witherow of New Life Academy leads with a 70.
Schmidt is tied for second with Brady Schwinghammer of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa and Carson Boe of Lakeview.
MCW senior Mitchell Weber shot an 82 and is in a three-way tie for 30th place in the field of 86 golfers.
Lakeview is first in the Class A boys team competition with a 322, with Walker-Hackensack-Akeley second at 324.
Fillmore Central is the Class A girls team leader with 342, with Lac qui Parle Valley second at 350.
In the Class AA girls tourney at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Fairmont senior Anika Haugen shot an 85 and is tied her for 33rd place.
The final round in both tournaments is tomorrow.
