Three local wrestlers bring home medals

Two Jackson County Central wrestlers and one from Martin County earned medals in the individual portion of the state wrestling tournament that concluded Saturday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

A pair of freshmen medaled for the Huskies.

JCC’s Kayden Eller, 40-7 on the season, placed fourth at 114 pounds in Class 1A. He was 4-2 in the state tournament. Kyler Thier (25-11) was fifth at 127, going 3-2.

Also earning spots in the state tournament were junior Isaac Rodriguez (37-11) at 121; sophomore Dallas Gossen (31-6) at 139; and senior Ryan Haley (29-19) at 189.

Martin County’s medal winner was sophomore Pierce Rohman (47-4), a third-place finisher at 133 pounds in Class 2A. Rohman opened the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Becker’s Bennett Kujawa, but came back four straight wins that included a 9-2 win over Kujawa in the third-place match.

Also for the Red Bulls, junior Torrey Paplow (46-7) wrestled at 145 pounds and sophomore Maddex Faber (43-9) competed at 172.
