Jackson County Central had 10 entries qualify in Class A and Fairmont eight in Class AA for the state track and field meet that runs Thursday-Saturday at St. Michael-Albertville High School. The Huskies will compete Thursday and Friday, while the Cardinals compete Friday and Saturday.
JCC has four entries that competed in last year’s state meet, two for the boys and two for the girls.
For the boys, Caleb Vancura was fifth in discus last year and Quinn Landherr was 10th in pole vault.
On the girls side, the Huskies were seventh in the 4x200-meter relay with three girls from that unit (Daysia Tomlin, Kendra Haar, Elsa Landherr) scheduled to run again this year. Natalia Botello-Ramos will run the other leg.
Also, Elsa Landherr placed 12th in triple jump last year.
Fairmont has three boys returning who brought home five medals from last year’s state meet.
Sawyer Tordsen is back to defend his Class AA boys discus title and Hank Artz was fifth in shot put.
Nelson Remington earned three medals last year, winning the 100-meter wheelchair division, placing third in the 200-meter wheelchair division and also third in the 800-meter wheelchair division.
In each case, the first day’s schedule has mostly prelims in running events with some field event finals. In the running event prelims, the top two finishers in each heat and the next five best times advance to the finals.
The second day is all finals.
Following are times that JCC and Fairmont athletes will compete in the state meet. Qualifiers from the first day’s prelims will advance to the finals on the second day. Number in parenthesis indicates seed number.
