ST. MICHAEL – Fairmont entries brought home 11 medals from the state Class AA track and field meet that concluded Saturday at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
The Cardinals won five medals in the girls meet and six in the boys.
Ellie Hernes earned two medals as she placed third in triple Jump (37-9 ¼) and fourth in long jump (17-1½)
Laura Thompson placed fourth in the 3200 meters (10:51.79) and Corene Moeller was eighth in the 400 meters (1:00.04).
Also, Fairmont’s girls 4x400-meter relay team of Moeller, Thompson, Macy Hanson and Carissa Saxton placed sixth (4:07.5).
The Cardinals were 11th in the team standings with 26 points. Monticello was first with 71 points, with Providence Academy second with 60.
Fairmont’s boys had a state champion as Sawyer Tordsen won the discus (156-9).
Also, Hank Artz was fifth in shot put (50-11 ¾) and Hudson Artz seventh in the 400 meters (50.29).
Nelson Remington earned medals in three wheelchair races for Fairmont. He was first in the 100 meters (18.75), third in the 200 meters (37.27) and also third in the 800 meters (2:41.82).
Two Big South Conference teams placed high in the Class AA boys team standings.
St. Peter won the state title with 44 points, with Spectrum second (40) and Jordan third (39). Worthington was part of a four-way tie for fourth with Delano, DeLaSalle and Faribault. Fairmont was 18th with 21 points.
Marshall senior Bellamy Sukalski, daughter of Trent Sukalski of Jackson, ran the opening leg of the Tigers 4x800 team that placed third in a time of 9:37.3.
