Ryan Pierson of Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin qualified for the state Class A boys cross country meet for the third time by placing third out of 110 finishers at the Section 2A meet Thursday.
Pierson had a time of 16:23.97 on the 5K course at Baylor Park in Norwood Young America.
The top two teams and the top six runners not on those teams advance to the state meet Saturday, Nov. 4 at University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course in St. Paul.
Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey won the boys team title with 60 points, with St. James Area second with 70. The Mavericks were 12th.
Levi Miest of St. James Area was the individual champion in 16:06.32.
In the girls meet, Katie Hartke led MCW/B-O with a 13th place finish among 111 finishers in 21:00.24. She missed qualifying for the state meet by one place.
Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey won the team title for the girls with 82 points, with Mankato Loyola/Cleveland/St. Clair second with 86.
LCSC’s Valerie Quast was the individual winner in 19:03.67.
