Greenway tops in Minnesota, third nationally in scoring

Maddyn Greenway of Providence Academy scored 33 points in Saturday’s 95-60 win over Duluth Marshall in the state Class AA girls basketball championship game to complete her career with 5,621 points.
That’s not only the most points in Minnesota history but it is the most ever in the country in 5-player girls basketball, according to statistics on the National Federation of High Schools website.
Greenway’s total is third on the all-time girls basketball list nationally. Positions 1, 2 and 4 are held by Iowa players from the 6-on-6 era.
She has signed to play basketball at Kentucky.

Ventura’s Lorenzen led her team to an undefeated season as a senior, winning the state championship over Southeast Polk.

One of those wins came in a matchup of the state’s top two scorers in the state as Lorenzen’s Vikings face Jan Jensen of Elk Horn-Kimballton on Dec. 23, 1968 in a tournament at West Des Moines Valley High School.
Ventura won 103-94 in overtime.
Lorenzen entered the game averaging 67.1 points per game and scored 68 before fouling out with about five minutes remaining in regulation.
Jensen came in averaging 68 points per game and scored 70.
Lorenzen went to play at Iowa State.

Jensen played at Drake under coach Lisa Bluder and was the Gateway Conference Player of the Year as a senior She joined Bluder’s coaching staff after her playing days with the Bulldogs were over and later followed Bluder to Iowa.
Jensen has been with the Hawkeyes for 26 seasons, the last two as head coach after Bluder’s retirement. Iowa is 26-6 this season and awaiting the NCAA tournament selections tonight (Sunday).
