Class 1A second-ranked Springfield shut out Martin County West 35-0 Thursday in a South District West-South Subdistrict football game in Sherburn. The Tigers are 7-0, while the Mavericks are 3-4.
Springfield totaled 360 yards offense, 242 rushing and 118 passing. MCW had 45 yards on the ground and also had 45 yards in the air for 90 yards.
Gavin Vanderwerf led Springfield in rushing with 120 yards rushing, while Parker Kuehn was 6-for-9 passing for 118 yards and a touchdown. Aiden Moriarty had two rushing touchdowns.
Berent Kosbab led the Mavericks in rushing with 32 yards on four carries and Lucas Larson had four receptions for 28 yards. Maddex Faber was 8-18 passing.
Torrey Paplow, Jacob Wilmes and Pierce Rohman had six tackles apiece for Martin County West.
The Mavericks finish their regular-season schedule at St. James Area on Wednesday.
