
Jackson County Central had a pair of second-place team finishes and is advancing 37 entries to the next level of competition from the Section 2A South Sub-Section track and field meet Thursday in Wells.
In the girls meet, the Huskies are advancing 19 entries to the Section 2A meet. Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton won the team title with 124.5 points, with JCC second with 104.
The top eight individuals and top four relays advanced.
Senior Rylie Cother claimed the lone first-place finish for the Huskies, winning the high jump (5-3). She advanced in three events as she placed second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.18) and third in the long jump (16-2.5).
Allison Luebben, a seventh grader, qualified for the section meet in four events.
She was second in the 200 meters (27.85), eighth in long jump (14-3) and on two relay teams that finished second, the 4x100 and 4x200.
JCC had three girls qualify for the section meet in long jump as Paylin Sether placed seventh to join Cother and Luebben.
Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin is sending three entries to the section girls meet.
Senior Ava Thate earned two of those spots as she was fourth in the 100 meters (13.46) and sixth in the high jump (4-8).
JCC’s boys were nosed out for the team title at the Section 2A true team meet title at the same Wells Concrete Stadium two weeks earlier and the Eagles again topped the Huskies again on Thursday. Maple River was first with 128 points, with Jackson County Central second with 100.
Five Huskies advanced in three events. Three are seniors.
Clay Malchow was first in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles (42.03), second in the 110 high hurdles (16.18) and was on the second-place 4x200 relay team.
Ben Dahlin won the 200 meters (22.47) and was on JCC’s runner-up 4x100 and 4x200 teams.
Quinn Landherr was second in the pole vault as he took sole possession of the school record by clearing 13-3. He had previously shared the record with Cole VonOhlen. He also ran on the second-place 4x200 and third-place 4x400 teams.
Junior Isaac Hesebeck qualified on three relay teams as he was on the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 units.
Sophomore Tellef Landherr is joining Quinn in the pole vault as he placed fifth (11-0) and was seventh in triple jump (37-1) and seventh in the 200 meters (24.51).
MCW/BO’s boys were able to advance six entries.
Senior Bear Kosbab grabbed two of those spots, placing second in the 100 meters (11.62) and third in the 200 meters (22.84).
The Section 2A meet is Saturday, May 31 at Todnem Field at Mankato West High School.
