Jackson County Central graduate Molly Boyum, a junior at Augustana University, is an operations intern with the Keene, N.H. Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League this summer.
She's studying Sports Management with minors in Business Administration and Coaching at Augustana.
The Swamp Bats open their season on the road Thursday and are at home on Friday.
Fairmont grad Luke Becker is playing with the Schamburg Boomers of the Independent Frontier League. He tripled and also walked in a loss to the Evansville Otters Thursday.
After a rainout Friday, he walked three times Saturday night in a 7-0 win over the Gateway Grizzlies. On Sunday, he had a two-run double and walked once in a 7-2 win over the Grizzlies.
Fairmont graduate Jack Waletich and the Minnesota State baseball team was eliminated from the NCAA Division II Central Regional Sunday.
In a 9-8 win over Arkansas Tech, Friday he doubled and scored in the third inning, had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and reached on an error in the sixth. In a 2-1 loss to Southern Arkansas Saturday, he had a hit and was hit by a pitch.
MSU played two more games Sunday. Waletich reached on a walk in a 7-4 win over Henderson State and was hit by a pitch in a 5-1 loss to Southern Arkansas. A redshirt junior, he finished the season hitting .257 with nine doubles, two home runs and 19 runs batted in. The Mavericks finished the season with a 39-10 record.
Fairmont grad Spencer Chirpich had his Abilene Christian baseball career come to an end Saturday. He took the pitching loss as the Wildcats fell to Sam Houston in a Southland Conference tournament semifinal.
Chirpich was 6-5 this season. As a team, ACU had a school-record 36 wins
Adam Walker has left his position as the head boys basketball coach at Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman to be the head coach at United South Central.
