Amateur baseball on a Sunday afternoon in June. That's expected.
Races at Jackson Motorplex that evening? Not so much.
But that was the case Sunday as I watched the Jackson Bulls take on the Windom Pirates and then head up to the track to catch the rain-delayed final night of the Jackson Nationals.
Things didn't go so well for the Bulls in the game I saw them play as they lost to a Windom team that might be the favorite when the Region 13C Playoffs roll around in a few weeks. Luverne and the Milroy Irish are certainly in the mix as well. None of the other teams has shown enough consistency to be considered in that top group but sometimes teams are able to turn the dial up once the calendar turns to July.
The Bulls did pick up a win at Worthington later in the day.
Here are all of the Sunday finals for teams in Region 13C:
Jackson 14, Worthington 3
Windom 12, Jackson 2
Lakefield 8, Pipestone 4 (10 innings)
Windom 12, Lakefield 2
Milroy Irish 10, Tracy 0
Milroy Irish 7, Heron Lake 2
Fox Lake 11, Hadley 2
Mountain Lake 2, Worthington 1
Ruthton 3, Adrian 2
Luverne 15, Tracy 4
Luverne 2, Ruthton 1 (8 innings)
At Jackson Motorplex, Logan Schuchart won his second straight Jackson Nationals title, this one in front of a full house. Last year's win came before a limited crowd.
Kudos to the Jackson County Fair Board members who were on hand today to direct traffic and park cars. There were cars seemingly everywhere on the Fairgrounds, including filling a lot of the ground around the horse arena.
And, thanks to a couple of you who took the time to talk about what I'm doing on Substack. Your kind words are appreciated. Thank you.
Look for newsletters tomorrow with more on the Bulls and the Nationals. Also, the Lakefield Frogs split their games today. And hopefully more JO volleyball news from Florida.
Good night.
